This was so frustrating to read about! I hate that so much money is spent on blowing smoke.

At least smoke was blown! The amount of money spent across the industry on projects that never even take off is mindblowing.

I have been there. Sometimes, in these big, multinational conglomerates, it feels like the work is akin to politics - about certain people keeping their fiefs in line rather than moving the business forward. So strange how that happens.

1000%. It's about spending the PR budget in many of these cases, not about actually getting coverage or building brand image because those would make it complicated for too many internal actors at the conglomorates.
